Your on-DO has a VAZ part number as well as a Datsun badge

The on-DO is a rebadged and restyled Lada Granta, and AvtoVAZ gave it its own index number in their system: VAZ 2195. Worth knowing, because searching that number often turns up parts listings when the Datsun name draws a blank.

The changes from the Granta were mostly at the ends. The on-DO is 77mm longer with a different front and rear, while the wheelbase, width and height are unchanged. Interior components are therefore far more likely to carry across than the exterior panels are.

An on-DO is not a GO, and not a mi-DO either

Three Datsuns get confused constantly. The GO and GO+ were built in India and Indonesia on a Nissan platform related to the Micra. The on-DO and mi-DO were built in Russia on Lada platforms, and even those two differ: the on-DO saloon comes from the Granta while the mi-DO hatchback comes from the Kalina.

So the badge alone tells you almost nothing. Four doors and a boot means the on-DO and this page. Five doors and a hatchback means the mi-DO. Anything built in India or Indonesia is a different family entirely.

1Will a Lada Granta part fit my on-DO?+
Often, and it is much the best place to start. Your on-DO is a rebadged and restyled Lada Granta with its own AvtoVAZ index, VAZ 2195, and the changes were concentrated at the front and rear. The car is 77mm longer than a Granta with different bumpers and lights, while the wheelbase, width and height are unchanged, which means interior components are far more likely to carry across than body panels. The Granta also remains in production, so the parts pool is considerably better than for most cars from a brand that no longer exists. Photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over and we will confirm the match.
2What is VAZ 2195 and why does it matter?+
VAZ 2195 is the index AvtoVAZ assigned to the on-DO inside its own numbering system, alongside the Granta family's own codes. Useful to know because parts suppliers in Russia and neighbouring markets catalogue by VAZ index rather than by Datsun model name. If a search for Datsun on-DO draws a blank, searching the VAZ number frequently turns up the same component. Worth trying before concluding a part does not exist.
3Can I use a Datsun GO or mi-DO extender instead?+
Neither, and the reasons differ. The GO and GO+ were built in India and Indonesia on a Nissan platform related to the Micra, so they share nothing with the Russian cars beyond the badge. The mi-DO is Russian-built like yours, but it comes from the Lada Kalina rather than the Granta and is a hatchback some 450mm shorter. Three Datsuns, three donor cars. 4How do I tell whether I need rigid or regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally drive and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so choose a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand meets the seat cushion before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender. The on-DO has modestly shaped seats rather than deep sports bolsters, so most owners need length. Do the test in a winter coat if that is how you usually travel, because it changes the answer more than people expect.
5Datsun no longer exists. Can I still get an extender?+
Yes. Our extenders are made to fit the buckle rather than sourced from the vehicle manufacturer, so supply from us is unaffected by Nissan winding Datsun down and production ending in December 2020. Your car is also in a better position than most discontinued models, since the Granta it is based on is still being built and its components remain in circulation. 6Does it matter whether mine is manual or automatic?+
No. The on-DO launched with a five-speed manual and gained a four-speed automatic in 2016, but the gearbox has nothing to do with the buckle. Mention the year anyway when you contact us, since it helps narrow the right part, but do not worry about the transmission.
7Can I leave it fitted, and can I use one with a child seat?+
You can leave it in the seat you use it in.
