Buckle Up Comfortably in Your Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

The 612 is the rare Ferrari with four seats people can actually use, which means four buckle positions rather than two. The front and the rear present different problems, and a transaxle tunnel runs between all four. Work out which seat you are fitting before you pick a length.

The Problem

The 612 places its V12 behind the front axle and drives through a rear transaxle, which puts a substantial tunnel running the full length of the cabin between all four seats. Up front the buckle drops into the slot between that tunnel and a shaped seat side. In the rear the problem is different: getting in means tilting a long front seat forward and dropping into a space you enter awkwardly, leaving the latch behind your hip rather than beside it. A jacket makes both worse.

The Solution

A certified extender lifts the connection point up clear of the tunnel to where the hand already sits. One click into the car's own receptacle, one click with the factory belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or permanently attached, and it lifts straight back out.

💪

Exceeds Break-Strength

Built to surpass international break-strength tests for three-point belts.

Four seats, and no center rear position

The 612 was built as a genuine four-seater rather than a token 2+2, with enough room behind for adults, which is why Ferrari stretched the wheelbase by 350mm over the 456 it replaced. Four individual seats, though, means there is no middle rear position and no centeR rear belt to extend.

Order by physical side rather than by description: front left, front right, rear left or rear right. On a right-hand-drive UK car the driver's seat is the front right, and saying the side removes any ambiguity when we pick your order.

Front or Rear? The Answer Differs

Both rows have a tunnel alongside them, but the obstacle is not the same, which is why one extender rarely serves the whole car.

Row What is in the way Usually order
Front The transaxle tunnel on one side and a shaped seat bolster on the other, with the stalk dropping into the slot between them. Rigid, 3 or 5 inch
Rear Awkward entry past a tilted front seat leaves the passenger settled with the latch behind the hip rather than beside it. Rigid for access, regular if only the length falls short

 Three Styles Explained

Three styles across our full extender range. Which one you want depends on whether the belt falls short or the buckle is out of reach.

Style Best for
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle where you can see it. Usually the right answer in the front seats, and often in the rear too where access is the difficulty.
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your factory belt. The choice when you can find the latch by feel without trouble and only the length falls short.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Worth considering in the rear of a grand tourer that carries different passengers.

How it works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick the shortest length that works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Pick the seat by side

Front left, front right, rear left or rear right. All four are individual seats, so each is ordered separately.

2.Measure with someone seated

In the rear especially, leaning in from outside gives the wrong answer. Judge it with a passenger settled properly.

3.Need help?

Send your year, seat position and a photo of the buckle, and our team will confirm the fit.

Made for

  • Plus-sized drivers and passengers
  • Rear passengers climbing in past a tilted front seat
  • Owners using all four seats on longer grand touring trips
  • Anyone with shoulder, back, or reach limitations

Good to know

  • Four individual seats, so there is no center rear belt in any 612
  • Front and rear usually need different parts, so order per seat
  • UK cars are right-hand drive, so the driver's seat is the front right

Satisfaction Guarantee

Try it in your 612. If it is not right for you, return it within the guarantee window.

Questions Worth Answering

1Is there a middle rear seat in a 612?+
No. The 612 carries four people in four individual seats, which is unusual for a Ferrari and one of the reasons owners buy them, but it means there is no centre rear position and nothing to extend there. Ferrari stretched the wheelbase by 350mm over the 456 specifically to make the rear seats usable by adults rather than a token pair. Order by physical side instead: front left, front right, rear left or rear right.
2Do the rear seats need a different part from the front?+
Usually, yes, and the reason is the entry rather than the belt. Rear passengers in a two-door have to climb in past a tilted front seat, and they end up settled in a position they did not choose, with the latch behind the hip rather than beside it. That is a different problem from the front, where the transaxle tunnel and the seat side are what block your hand. Order one extender per seat you actually plan to use, and judge the rear with someone properly seated rather than leaning in from outside.
3Will a 456M or FF part fit my 612?+
Both are worth looking at, and both come with a caveat. The 612 replaced the 456M and was itself replaced by the FF, so all three are Ferrari's front-engined four-seat grand tourers in succession. The problem is that the 612 was a clean-sheet car: all-aluminium construction, a wheelbase 350mm longer than the 456 and a completely new interior, and the FF that followed moved to a shooting brake body with four-wheel drive. Sharing a slot in the range is not the same as sharing a belt tongue. If you have a part from either, photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over.
4How do I work out whether I need rigid or regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally travel and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand stops against the tunnel or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. The 612's front-mid engine and rear transaxle put a tunnel between all four seats, so the front is usually the second case. In the rear it depends more on how the passenger settles after getting in.
5My car was ordered through Ferrari's personalization programe. Does that matter?+
It can. Later 612s were available through Ferrari's one-to-one personalisation scheme, where owners specified materials and interior details individually, and bespoke cars do not always match the standard specification. The belt receptacle is usually unaffected, but seat shape, trim and colour can differ noticeably. Send a photo of your seat and latch plate and mention that the car is a personalised example, and we will confirm both the fit and the closest finish before anything ships.
6Does it matter whether mine is a manual or an F1 paddle-shift?+
No. The 612 was offered with a six-speed manual or the F1A automated manual, and a handful of manual cars are now the most sought after of all, but the gearbox has nothing to do with the buckle. What matters is the seat position, the year and the shape of your latch plate. Mention the year when you contact us since it helps narrow the right part, but the transmission is not something we need to know.
7Will it mark the interior or affect the car's value?+
Nothing is cut, drilled or permanently attached, no original component is removed, and the car returns to exactly as it was the moment you unclip it, so there is nothing for a future buyer or an inspection to find. The latch plate has a smooth finish rather than a machined edge, which matters against aluminium trim and leather you cannot simply reorder. The one thing to watch is an unbuckled extender left hanging against the tunnel trim or a seat side, since any hard part allowed to rub will eventually mark it. Clip it in properly and check the contact point after the first few outings.
8Is it road legal here, and what if it does not fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use, and note that extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, never for use with a child restraint. Care is simple: wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoid solvents and leather conditioner, and replace it if you find fraying, a stiff latch, or after any incident. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though sending a photo of your buckle first usually gets the right part to you faster.
