Buckle Up Comfortably in Your Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Two questions settle this one. Which seats are fitted, since Ferrari offered several and owners change them, and whether your car is a standard F12 Berlinetta or one of the 799 tdf models. Work through both before you pick a length.

The Problem

The F12 mounts its V12 behind the front axle and drives through a rear transaxle, so a substantial tunnel runs between the two seats. At 1,273mm tall you sit low and reclined, with that tunnel on one side and a firmly shaped seat on the other, and the buckle drops into the narrow slot between them. On cars with carbon shells the seat side is fixed and your hand simply cannot get past it. A jacket closes off what little space is left.

The Solution

A certified extender lifts the connection point up clear of the tunnel to where your hand already sits. One click into the car's own receptacle, one click with your factory belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or permanently attached, and it lifts straight back out.

💪

Exceeds Break-Strength

Built to surpass international break-strength tests for three-point belts.

Start With Your Seats

The F12 shares its stalks and receptacles across the range. What differs is the seat, and that is what stands between your hand and the buckle.

Your seats How to recognize them Order this
Standard Fully adjustable and generously padded, with side shaping you can rest a hand over without your arm riding up. Regular, shortest length that reaches
Daytona style The horizontal ribbed panel pattern across the centre, a named option that carries a value premium. Usually rigid, 3 or 5 inch
Carbon shell Exposed carbon back, fixed sides and a considerably firmer, more enclosing shape than standard. Rigid, 3 inch. Send a photo first.

Seats get changed on these cars

Worth knowing before you order from a build sheet. Replacement carbon seats for the F12 are sold as direct swaps requiring no modification to the seats or the car, so they get retrofitted to examples that left Maranello with standard chairs, and standard seats occasionally go back into cars that had shells.

So the original specification is not the last word. Judge what is bolted into your car today and tell us that, with a photo of the seat side and the buckle. A car with retrofitted shells behaves like a carbon-seat car whatever the order form said in 2014.

If yours is an F12tdf, treat it differently

Ferrari built 799 F12tdf models between 2015 and 2016, and they now trade as collectibles rather than as used F12s, at values well into seven figures. Alongside that, exposed carbon and Tailor Made specification carry lasting premiums on any F12.

On a car in that bracket we would rather confirm from a photograph than sell you something on the strength of a model name. Send a clear shot of your latch plate and the slot it enters, mention that the car is a tdf, and we will verify the fit and talk through the closest finish before anything is dispatched.

 Three Styles Extender

Three styles across our full extender range. In a low front-mid-engined car with a transaxle tunnel the answer is usually height rather than length.

Style Best for
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle where you can see it. Usually the right answer here, because the tunnel and the seat side are what block your hand rather than belt length.
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your factory belt. The choice on standard seats where you can find the latch by feel and only the length falls short.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Worth considering for the passenger seat if you carry different people.

Ferrari F12 Fitment Details

Feature Detail
Model years 2012 to 2017, built at Maranello. The F12tdf ran from 2015 to 2016, limited to 799 cars.
Body Two-door berlinetta, 4,618mm long and 1,273mm tall on a 2,720mm wheelbase, aluminum construction
Seat positions Front left and front right only. A strict two-seater with no rear row, so specify the physical side.
Layout note Front-mid V12 with a rear transaxle, so a substantial tunnel runs between the two seats
Seat note Standard, Daytona style and carbon shell seats were all offered, and seats are frequently changed
Material Woven seat belt webbing or rigid metal extension, with a smooth-finish metal latch
Not suitable for Cars running a competition harness in place of the factory three-point belt
Related models Replaced the 599 GTB and was replaced by the 812 Superfast, which shares its 2,720mm wheelbase and near-identical height
Markets Sold worldwide including the UK, where cars are right-hand drive
Certification E4 or E8 type-approved

How it works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick the shortest length that works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Identify the seat fitted now

Standard, Daytona style, or carbon shell. What is in the car today, not what the order form said.

2.Measure to the tunnel top

The useful measure is the height needed to bring the buckle into view, not the reach across your lap.

3.Pick the physical side

UK cars are right-hand drive, so the driver's seat is the front right. Say the side rather than the role.

Made for

  • Plus-sized drivers and passengers
  • Owners of cars with carbon shell seats, where the side is fixed
  • Taller drivers sitting low beside a transaxle tunnel
  • Anyone with shoulder, back, or reach limitations

Good to know

  • Seat type matters more than model year, and seats are often changed
  • Two seats only, so there is no rear position on any F12
  • F12tdf owners should send a photo rather than order on the model name

Satisfaction Guarantee

Try it in your F12. If it is not right for you, return it within the guarantee window.

Certified Quality

E4/E8 approved and built in a registered facility to exceed break-strength tests.

Questions Worth Answering

1How do I tell which seats my F12 has?+
Run your hand down the outer side of the cushion. Standard seats are generously padded and you can rest a hand flat on the side without your arm riding up. Daytona style seats are recognisable by the horizontal ribbed panel pattern across the centre, a named option that carries a value premium. Carbon shells are unmistakable, with an exposed carbon back, fixed sides and a noticeably more enclosing shape. If your hand meets the seat before it finds the latch, that is a height problem whichever of the three you have.
2My seats were changed after the car was built. Does that matter?+
It matters more than the build sheet does, and it is why we ask about the seat rather than the specification. Replacement carbon seats for the F12 are sold as direct swaps needing no modification to the seats or the car, so they get retrofitted to examples delivered with standard chairs. A car with shells fitted behaves like a carbon-seat car whatever was ordered originally, and one that has gone back to standard behaves like a standard car. Tell us what is in it now and send a photo of the seat side and the buckle.
3Mine is an F12tdf. Is this the right page?+
Yes, but we would handle it differently. The tdf shares the F12's architecture, so the belt hardware is closely related, but Ferrari built only 799 between 2015 and 2016 and they now trade as collectibles at values well above a standard F12 rather than as used cars. On something in that bracket we are not going to claim a fit from a model name. Send a photo of your latch plate and the slot it enters and mention that the car is a tdf, and we will confirm properly and discuss which finish sits closest before anything ships.
4Will an 812 Superfast or 599 part fit?+
The 812 is the closer of the two. It replaced the F12 and shares the same 2,720mm wheelbase and a height within three millimetres, along with an enlarged version of the same V12 and the same basic front-mid transaxle layout. The 599 came before and is a larger, taller car with an older interior. In both cases each generation brought a new cabin, and the belt tongue belongs to the seat rather than the chassis, so proximity in the lineage is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over.
5How do I work out whether I need rigid or regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally drive and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand stops against the tunnel or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. At 1,273mm tall with a V12 driving through a rear transaxle, most F12s turn out to be the second case, and on carbon shells it is close to certain.
6My car has a harness fitted for track use. Can I still use one?+
No. Extenders work with a factory three-point belt, and a multi-point competition harness has nothing for one to attach to. Some F12s, and rather more tdf models, have had harnesses fitted for circuit use. If your car still has its original three-point belts alongside a harness, tell us which you use on the road and we will advise accordingly. On track, take the extender out for the session, since any added slack is the last thing you want under sustained cornering load.
7Will it mark the interior or affect the car's value?+
Nothing is cut, drilled or permanently attached, no original component is removed, and the car returns to exactly as it was the moment you unclip it, so there is nothing for a future buyer or an inspection to find. That matters on an F12, where exposed carbon, Daytona seats and Tailor Made specification all carry lasting premiums. The latch plate has a smooth finish rather than a machined edge. The one thing to watch is an unbuckled extender left hanging against the tunnel trim or a carbon seat shell, since any hard part allowed to rub will eventually mark it. Clip it in properly and check the contact point early on.
8Is it road legal here, and what if it does not fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use, and note that extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt. Care is simple: wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoid solvents and leather conditioner, and replace it if you find fraying, a stiff latch, or after any incident. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though sending a photo of your seat and buckle first usually gets the right part to you faster.
