Ferrari Portofino Seat Belt Extender

Buckle Up Comfortably in Your Ferrari Portofino

Every Portofino is a four-seater with a folding metal roof, so there are four belt positions and a boot that shares its space with the roof. Two things decide your order: which row you are fitting, and whether your car is a Portofino or the later Portofino M.

The Problem

The V8 sits behind the front axle and drives a rear transaxle, so a tunnel runs down the center of the cabin. Up front the buckle drops into the slot between that tunnel and an eighteen-way adjustable sports seat, and you end up reaching somewhere you cannot see. In the rear the seats are usable for shorter journeys but still compact, so a passenger settles low with the latch behind the hip. A jacket closes off what room is left in either row.

The Solution

A certified extender lifts the connection point up clear of the tunnel to where the hand already sits. One click into the car's own receptacle, one click with the factory belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or permanently attached, and it lifts straight back out.

Exceeds Break-Strength

Built to surpass international break-strength tests for three-point belts.

Every Portofino has rear seats, unlike the California before it

Worth stating clearly, because owners moving up from a California often expect the same choice. Ferrari offered that car either as a 2+2 or as a 2+ with the rear seats deleted for a luggage bench. The Portofino was built as a 2+2 throughout, so every example has four seats and four belt positions.

Ferrari went further and redesigned the front seat backrests specifically to free up rear space, gaining around five centimeters of legroom over the California T. The rear seats remain best suited to shorter journeys, but they are genuinely there, and they are two individual seats rather than a bench, so there is no center rear position.

Portofino or Portofino M?

The original Portofino arrived in 2017 with 600 cv and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Ferrari announced the Portofino M, for Modificata, in September 2020, and it reached customers during 2021 with 620 cv, an eight-speed gearbox and a five-position manettino adding Race mode.

The two share a body and a basic layout, but a mid-cycle revision of that scale is where interior components get quietly updated. Select your exact year rather than rounding, and if you are on the boundary, send a photo of your latch plate and the slot it enters.

Front or Rear? The Answer Differs

Both rows sit alongside the tunnel, but what actually blocks the hand is not the same, which is why one extender rarely serves the whole car.

Row What is in the way Usually order
Front The transaxle tunnel on one side and a sports seat bolster on the other, with the stalk dropping into the slot between them. Rigid, 3 or 5 inch
Rear Compact seats and an awkward entry leave the passenger settled with the latch behind the hip rather than beside it. Rigid for access, regular if only the length falls short

The three styles explained

Three styles across our full extender range. In a front-mid-engine car with a tunnel the answer is usually height rather than length.

Style Best for
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle where you can see it. Usually the right answer up front, and often in the rear too where access is the difficulty.
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your factory belt. The choice when you can find the latch by feel and only the length falls short.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Worth considering in the rear, where passengers change from journey to journey.

How it works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick the shortest length that works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Pick the seat by side

Front left, front right, rear left or rear right. All four are individual seats, so each is ordered separately.

2.Set the front seat first

With eighteen-way adjustment up front, judge the rear reach with the seat where it actually sits on a journey.

3.Need help?

Send your year, seat position and a photo of the buckle, and our team will confirm the fit.

Made for

  • Plus-sized drivers and passengers
  • Anyone reaching past a transaxle tunnel and a sports seat bolster
  • Rear passengers on the shorter journeys these seats are built for
  • Anyone with shoulder, back, or reach limitations

Good to know

  • Every Portofino is a 2+2, so all four positions exist on every car
  • Four individual seats, so there is no centre rear belt to extend
  • The folding roof shares the boot, so store spares with that in mind

Satisfaction Guarantee

Try it in your Portofino. If it is not right for you, return it within the guarantee window.

Questions worth answering

1Does every Portofino have rear seats?+
Yes, and it is worth confirming because the California before it did not. Ferrari offered that car either as a 2+2 or as a 2+ with the rear seats deleted in favour of a luggage bench, so two Californias of the same year could differ. The Portofino was built as a 2+2 throughout, with two individual rear seats and their own belts on every example. Ferrari even redesigned the front backrests to free up around five centimetres more rear legroom than the California T had. There is still no centre rear position, so order by side.
2Mine is a Portofino M. Is it the same as the earlier car?+
Treat them as separate cars when ordering. The M stands for Modificata, and Ferrari announced it in September 2020 with customer cars arriving during 2021. It brought 620 cv in place of 600, an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox replacing the seven-speed, and a five-position manettino with Race mode. The body carries over, but a mid-cycle revision of that scale is exactly where interior components get updated without announcement. Select your exact year, and send a photo of the latch plate if you are on the boundary.
3Will a California T or Roma part fit my Portofino?+
Both are sensible places to look, and the Roma is the closer of the two. The Portofino replaced the California T with an all-new and lighter chassis rather than a revision of it, so that link is weaker than the model succession suggests. The Roma came afterwards, and the Roma Spider shares the Portofino's platform, which makes it the nearest relative in the range. In every case each car has its own interior and the belt tongue belongs to the seat rather than the chassis. Photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over and we will compare them properly.
4Can I use one with a child seat in the rear?+
No, in any position and in any car. A child restraint is engineered around the vehicle's own belt path and anchor geometry, and an extender changes both while introducing slack. The Portofino's rear seats are described by Ferrari itself as suited to shorter journeys, and a tight rear seat with an anchor point in it is exactly the situation where an extender starts to look like a solution. Use the anchor points fitted to your car and follow the restraint manufacturer's instructions. If a seat will not install cleanly, try the other side, change the seat, or use another car for that journey.
5How do I work out whether I need rigid or regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally travel and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand stops against the tunnel or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. The Portofino's V8 sits behind the front axle and drives a rear transaxle, so a tunnel runs between the front seats and most owners find the front is the second case. Worth noting that the eighteen-way front seats can change the answer, so test in your usual driving position.
6Where should I keep a spare with the roof down?+
Not on the rear seats, and not loose in the boot. The hardtop folds away in around fourteen seconds and can be operated at low speed rather than only when stationary, which is convenient but means the roof can start moving while you are on the go. With it lowered the boot is shared with the roof itself. Anything loose on the rear seats of an open car can also be pulled into the slipstream, and a metal extender is the last object you want going anywhere. An extender clipped into a buckle is fine roof up or down. Keep spares out of the car.
7Will it mark the interior or affect the car's value?+
Nothing is cut, drilled or permanently attached, no original component is removed, and the car returns to exactly as it was the moment you unclip it, so there is nothing for a future buyer or an inspection to find. The latch plate has a smooth finish rather than a machined edge, which matters against leather you cannot simply reorder. The one thing to watch is an unbuckled extender left hanging against the tunnel trim or a seat side, since any hard part allowed to rub will eventually mark it. Clip it in properly and check the contact point after the first few outings.
8Is it road legal here, and what if it does not fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use, and note that extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, never for use with a child restraint. Care is simple: wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoid solvents and leather conditioner, and replace it if you find fraying, a stiff latch, or after any incident. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though sending a photo of your buckle first usually gets the right part to you faster.
