Ferrari Roma Seat Belt Extender

Buckle Up Comfortably in Your Ferrari Roma

Coupé and Spider are both 2+2, so either way you have four belt positions. The Spider adds something unusual though: its rear backrests rotate to form the wind deflector, and the folding roof lives behind the rear seats rather than in the boot. Read the Spider notes below before ordering.

The Problem

The V8 sits behind the front axle driving a rear transaxle, so a tunnel runs the length of the cabin. Ferrari then wrapped the interior around that layout as two separate modules, one for the driver and one for the passenger, which looks superb and leaves the buckle stalk tucked in the narrow slot between the tunnel and an eighteen-way sports seat. In the rear the seats are compact and entry is awkward, so a passenger settles with the latch behind the hip rather than beside it.

The Solution

A certified extender lifts the connection point up clear of the tunnel to where the hand already sits. One click into the car's own receptacle, one click with the factory belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or permanently attached, and it lifts straight back out.

On a Spider, the rear backrests do a second job

Worth understanding before you fit anything back there. The Roma Spider's wind deflector is not a separate panel you clip in. It is formed by rotating the rear seat backrest itself, and it can be deployed on the move at speeds well beyond the national limit.

So the rear backrest is a moving part rather than a fixed one. Judge the reach with the backrests in their normal seating position, not deployed as a deflector, and make sure any extender is clipped properly into the receptacle rather than resting where the mechanism travels. The Spider also has an access hatch through the rear seats for longer items, which is another reason to check nothing is trapped.

Coupé or Spider? The years differ too

The Roma coupé ran from 2020 to 2024. The Spider arrived in 2023 and continued after the coupé finished, so the two overlap rather than following one another. Both are 2+2 with the same 2,670mm wheelbase, the same twin-turbo V8 and the same eight-speed gearbox.

The Spider's roof is a five-layer fabric top, the first on a front-engined Ferrari since 1969, which folds in around thirteen and a half seconds at up to 37mph. Tell us which body you have along with the year, since the rear of the two cars is where the differences sit.

Front or Rear? The Answer Differs

Both rows sit alongside the tunnel, but what blocks the hand is not the same, which is why one extender rarely serves the whole car.

Row What is in the way Usually order
Front The transaxle tunnel on one side and a sports seat bolster on the other, with the dual cockpit design enclosing both. Rigid, 3 or 5 inch
Rear Compact seats and an awkward entry leave the passenger settled with the latch behind the hip rather than beside it. Rigid for access, regular if only the length falls short

Three Styles Explained

Three styles across our full extender range. In a front-mid-engine car with a tunnel the answer is usually height rather than length.

Style Best for
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle where you can see it. Usually the right answer up front, and often in the rear too where access is the difficulty.
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your factory belt. The choice when you can find the latch by feel and only the length falls short.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Worth considering in the rear, where passengers change from journey to journey.

How it works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick shortest length that works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Confirm body and seat

Coupé or Spider, then front left, front right, rear left or rear right. Each seat is a separate order.

2.Backrests in the seating position

On a Spider, judge the rear reach with the backrests upright for passengers, not rotated as the deflector.

3.Need help?

Send your year, body, seat position and a photo of the buckle, and our team will confirm the fit.

Made for

  • Plus-sized drivers and passengers
  • Anyone reaching past a transaxle tunnel and an enclosing dual cockpit
  • Rear passengers on the shorter journeys these seats are built for
  • Anyone with shoulder, back, or reach limitations

Good to know

  • Both bodies are 2+2, with four individual seats and no centre rear belt
  • On a Spider the rear backrests rotate to become the wind deflector
  • The Spider's roof stows behind the rear seats rather than in the boot

Questions Worth Answering

1My Spider's rear backrest moves. Does that affect the fitting?+
It affects how you measure rather than what you order. Unusually, the Roma Spider's wind deflector is formed by rotating the rear seat backrest itself rather than by a separate panel, and it can be deployed on the move at high speed. That makes the backrest a moving part. Judge the reach with the backrests upright in their normal seating position, since that is how a passenger will actually be sitting, and make sure the extender is clipped properly into the receptacle rather than left resting where the mechanism travels. The same applies to the access hatch that runs through the rear seats for longer items.
2Where should I keep a spare in a Roma Spider?+
Not behind the rear seats, which is where a California or Portofino owner might reasonably assume is safe. Those cars fold a metal hardtop into the boot. The Roma Spider works the other way round: its Z-folding fabric roof slips under a tonneau behind the rear seats, which is why the boot loses only seventeen litres compared with the coupé. So the space behind the cabin belongs to the roof mechanism. Anything loose on the rear seats of an open car can also be pulled into the slipstream. Keep spares out of the car entirely.
3Will a Portofino or Amalfi part fit my Roma?+
The Portofino is worth checking, with a caveat. The two share a platform and an identical 2,670mm wheelbase, and the Roma Spider directly replaced the Portofino M in the range. Ferrari has been clear, though, that they are not versions of the same car, and the cabins genuinely differ, with the Roma's dual cockpit design and more tech-led interior. The Amalfi that followed the Roma is a newer car again. In every case the belt tongue belongs to the seat rather than the chassis. Photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over and we will compare them properly.
4Is there a middle rear seat in a Roma?+
No. Both the coupé and the Spider are 2+2, meaning two front seats and two individual rear seats, so there is no middle rear position and no centre belt to extend. Ferrari designed the cabin as two wrapping modules for driver and passenger that extend back to integrate with the two rear seats, which is part of why the layout looks the way it does. Order by physical side instead, and on a UK car remember the driver's seat is the front right.
5How do I work out whether I need rigid or regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally travel and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand stops against the tunnel or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. The Roma's V8 drives a rear transaxle, so a tunnel runs between the front seats, and the dual cockpit design wraps closely around both occupants. Most owners find the front is the second case. The eighteen-way seats can change the answer, so test in your usual position.
6Can I use one with a child seat in the rear?+
No, in any position and in any car. A child restraint is engineered around the vehicle's own belt path and anchor geometry, and an extender changes both while introducing slack. On a Spider there is a further reason: the rear backrest doubles as the wind deflector and is designed to move, which is not a surface to be building a restraint installation around. Use the anchor points fitted to your car and follow the restraint manufacturer's instructions. If a seat will not install cleanly, try the other side, change the seat, or use another car for that journey.
7Will it mark the interior or affect the car's value?+
Nothing is cut, drilled or permanently attached, no original component is removed, and the car returns to exactly as it was the moment you unclip it, so there is nothing for a future buyer or an inspection to find. The latch plate has a smooth finish rather than a machined edge, which matters against the leather and faux suede in a Roma cabin. The one thing to watch is an unbuckled extender left hanging against the tunnel trim or a seat side, since any hard part allowed to rub will eventually mark it. Clip it in properly and check the contact point after the first few outings.
8Is it road legal here, and what if it does not fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use, and note that extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, never for use with a child restraint. Care is simple: wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoid solvents and leather conditioner, and replace it if you find fraying, a stiff latch, or after any incident. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though sending a photo of your buckle first usually gets the right part to you faster.
