Unlike most compact executive saloons, the G70 is rear-wheel drive, which means a proper transmission tunnel running between the front seats. Two things decide your order: saloon or Shooting Brake, and which seats your trim came with.

The Problem

The G70 shares its rear-drive platform with the Kia Stinger, so a transmission tunnel runs through the cabin and pushes the front buckle stalk into the narrow slot between the console and the seat. You reach into a gap you cannot see. In the rear, a compact cabin leaves passengers reaching behind the hip for a latch tucked against the bench. Add a winter coat and either position stops being straightforward.

A British G70 is always a facelift car

Useful to know, because it removes a question you would otherwise have to answer. The G70 has been built since September 2017, but Genesis only launched in the UK in 2021 and deliberately timed that launch to coincide with the mid-life facelift. So if your car was sold here through Genesis, it is a facelift car whatever the earlier history of the model.

Pre-facelift cars from 2017 to 2020 do exist and can arrive as private imports from Korea, North America, the Middle East or Australia. Those cars were restyled inside as well as out, so if yours is one of them, tell us and send a photo of your latch plate rather than ordering on the year alone.

Saloon or Shooting Brake?

Genesis built the Shooting Brake specifically for European buyers, unveiling it at Goodwood in 2021 as the first car in the range designed with this market in mind. Both bodies measure close to 4.7 metres and share their front seats and stalks, but the estate carries around 40 per cent more boot space, which it gets from a different rear arrangement.

So a front-seat order is the same either way, while a rear-seat order is not. Specify saloon or Shooting Brake along with the exact position, and on the estate check that no belt or stalk is trapped behind the cushion after the bench has been folded and raised.

Choose the style that fits where you sit

Three styles across our full extender range. In a rear-drive car with a tunnel the front and rear usually want different things.

Questions worth answering

1Will a Kia Stinger part fit my G70?+
Often, and it is the most sensible place to start. The G70 and the Stinger share Hyundai's M2 rear-drive platform, and reviewers here routinely describe the G70 as feeling like a Stinger underneath, which is exactly what it is. The Stinger sold in far greater numbers in the UK before it was discontinued, so parts are easier to come by. The catch is the usual one: Genesis fitted its own seats and interior, and the belt tongue belongs to the seat rather than the floorpan. If you have a Stinger part in hand, photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over and we will tell you plainly whether they match.
2Is the Shooting Brake different from the saloon?+
Up front, the two share the same seats and stalks, so a front-seat order is identical. The rear differs, because the estate carries around 40 per cent more boot space and gets there through a different rear arrangement with a folding bench. If you are buying for a rear seat, specify saloon or Shooting Brake along with the exact position. Worth checking too that belts and stalks are sitting clear after the bench has been folded and raised, since they can end up trapped behind the cushion.
3My car is a 2018. Does that matter?+
It means your car is a pre-facelift example, which almost certainly makes it an import. Genesis did not begin selling in the UK until 2021 and timed that launch to coincide with the mid-life facelift, so every G70 sold here new is a facelift car. Pre-facelift cars from 2017 to 2020 reach Britain privately from Korea, North America, the Middle East or Australia. The restyle changed the interior as well as the exterior, so if yours is one of those, mention it and send a photo of your latch plate rather than selecting a year and hoping.
4Does Premium or Sport trim change what I need?+
It can, because the seat matters more than the badge. UK cars came in just two trims, Premium and Sport, and the Sport carries more heavily bolstered front seats. A raised side wall between your hip and your hand points to a rigid extender rather than a longer strap, since webbing simply folds down into the same gap. To settle it, sit in the seat and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. Finding the latch by feel means you need length. Your hand stopping at the bolster means you need height.
5Does my engine or drivetrain change the part?+
No. UK cars came with either a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel, both with an eight-speed automatic, while other markets also had a twin-turbo V6. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive were both offered. None of that touches the buckle. What matters is the body, the seat and the position. Mention the trim when you contact us since it hints at which seat you have, but the engine under the bonnet is not something we need to know.
6Do I need a separate extender for the rear?+
Usually, yes. The rear buckle stalks differ from the front ones, and the centre rear position differs again from the two window seats. Front and rear also tend to need different styles in this car, because the front is a tunnel and bolster problem while the rear is a reach problem. Order one per seat you actually plan to use rather than assuming a front part transfers backwards.
7Can I leave it fitted, and can I use one with a child seat?+
You can leave it in the seat you use it in. The car reads a fastened belt exactly as normal, because the extender clicks into the same receptacle, though you should unclip it when the seat is empty so occupancy sensors do not read an occupied but unbelted position. Never use one with a child seat or child restraint, in any position. A child restraint is engineered around the car's own belt path and anchor geometry and an extender changes both, so use the ISOFIX points and top tether anchors fitted to your G70 instead.
8Is it road legal here, and what if it does not fit?+
