Genesis was a Hyundai model before it became a brand, which is why the G80 has a more tangled history than most executive saloons. Work out which generation you have first, and whether yours is the Electrified version, because the battery changes where the rear buckle sits.
The Problem
The G80 is a rear-drive executive saloon, so a transmission tunnel runs through the cabin and pushes the front buckle stalk into the slot between the console and the seat. In the rear, a car built around back-seat comfort still leaves the latch low against the cushion, and passengers reach behind the hip for it. On the Electrified version the battery pack under the floor lifts the rear cushion, which moves the reach again. Add a coat and none of those positions is comfortable.

Genesis was a Hyundai model before it was a brand
Worth untangling, because it catches people out constantly. Hyundai sold an executive saloon called the Genesis from 2008. In 2016, once Genesis had been established as a separate luxury marque, that same car was rebranded as the G80 with no change underneath. So a late Hyundai Genesis and an early Genesis G80 are the same vehicle wearing different badges.
The all-new second-generation G80 arrived in 2020 and is a completely different car. If your boot says Hyundai, or your car predates 2020, send us a photo of your latch plate and the slot it enters rather than selecting a year and hoping for the best.
Electrified G80 owners: the battery changes the rear
The Electrified G80 shares its body with the petrol car, but packaging a battery pack into a saloon designed around an engine came at a cost to interior space. The floor rises, the rear cushion sits higher, and passengers end up knees-up with the latch further below them than in an equivalent petrol G80.
So tell us if yours is the Electrified version, particularly for a rear seat order. If you find yourself between two lengths back there, the longer one is usually the safer choice on an electric car.
