Hyundai Coupe Seat Belt Extender

Product description

🛡E4 & E8 Certified · Built In A UK Registered Factory

Buckle Up Comfortably In Your Hyundai Coupe

Coupe is the British name for the car America knew as the Tiburon and Korea as the Tuscani. It is a two-door with four seats, which means the front and the rear present completely different problems. Work out which row you are fitting first.

The Problem

At barely 1,330mm tall you drop down into a Coupe rather than step in, and the front buckle ends up low beside a shaped sports seat where your hand cannot easily reach. Behind, getting in means tilting a long front seat forward and folding yourself into a space you enter awkwardly, so the latch sits behind the hip rather than beside it. On a car now twenty years old or more, a stiffening retractor makes both worse.

The Solution

A certified extender brings the connection point back to where the hand already falls. One click into the car's buckle, one click with your original belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified, which matters on a car whose original parts are getting harder to find.

Exceeds Break-Strength

Built to surpass international break-strength tests for three-point belts.

Which Generation Do You Have?

Two generations over twelve years, and they sit on different underpinnings, which matters when looking for related parts.

Generation Years Worth Knowing
RD 1996 to 2001 Built on a platform derived from the Elantra. Facelifted in 1999, giving early and late cars.
GK 2002 to 2008 A dedicated coupe chassis rather than a saloon platform, with facelifts in 2005 and 2007.

Searching For Parts? Try Tiburon

Coupe is what Hyundai called this car in Britain and most of Europe. North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa knew it as the Tiburon, South Korea and Singapore as the Tuscani, and the 1999 to 2001 car was briefly the Turbulence at home.

Worth knowing when hunting for components, because the American market was far larger than the British one and Tiburon returns considerably more results than Coupe does. Searching a generic word like coupe is difficult in any case. All of those names cover the same vehicle, so tell us the badge and the year and we will work from the car itself.

Front Or Rear? The Answer Differs

Four seats behind two doors means the two rows face completely different obstacles. Three styles are available across our full extender range.

Row What Is In The Way Usually Order
Front A low seating position beside a shaped sports seat, with the stalk dropping into the gap between seat and console. Rigid, 3 or 5 inch
Rear Awkward entry past a tilted front seat leaves the passenger settled with the latch behind the hip. Rigid for access, regular if only the length falls short

How It Works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick The Shortest Length That Works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Check The Belt First

On a car this age, make sure a tired retractor is not the real problem before you buy anything.

2.Pick The Row And The Side

Front or rear, then left or right. All four are individual positions and each is a separate order.

3.Need Help?

Send your year, generation and seat position, plus a photo of the buckle, and we will confirm.

Questions Worth Answering

1Is My Car A Tiburon Or A Tuscani?+
All three names describe the same vehicle. Hyundai sold it as the Coupe in Britain and most of Europe, the Tiburon in North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and the Tuscani in South Korea and Singapore, with the 1999 to 2001 car briefly called the Turbulence at home. Worth knowing when hunting for parts, because the American market was considerably larger than the British one, so searching Tiburon turns up far more than Coupe does, and a generic word like coupe is awkward to search at the best of times. Tell us the badge and year and we will work from the car.
2Is There A Middle Rear Seat?+
No. The Coupe is a 2+2, meaning two front seats and two individual rear seats, so there is no middle rear position and no centre belt to extend. Order by physical side instead: front left, front right, rear left or rear right. British cars are right-hand drive, so the driver's seat is the front right. The rear positions also tend to need a different part from the front, because the difficulty back there is the awkward entry past a tilted front seat rather than the belt length itself.
3Will A Hyundai Elantra Part Fit?+
That depends entirely on which generation you have, which is the reason to establish it first. The RD car from 1996 to 2001 was built on a platform derived from the Elantra of the period, so parts from that saloon are a reasonable place to start. The GK car from 2002 onward moved to a dedicated coupe chassis rather than a saloon platform, which makes the Elantra a much weaker match for it. In both cases the belt tongue belongs to the seat rather than the floorpan, so photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over.
4My Belt Pulls Out Slowly. Will An Extender Fix It?+
Probably not, and it is worth testing before you spend anything. Even the newest Coupe is now well over fifteen years old, and the earliest are approaching thirty, so a sluggish belt is often a tired retractor or webbing full of grit rather than a belt that is genuinely too short. Pull the belt out slowly to its full extent and see whether it reaches past the buckle with slack to spare. If it does, the mechanism is your problem and an extender will only add slack to an already lazy belt. If it stops short even fully extended, an extender is the right product.
5Is It Road Legal Here, And What If It Does Not Fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use. Extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, and should never be used with a child seat or child restraint. Care is simple: wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoid solvents and bleach, and replace it if you find fraying, a stiff latch, or after any collision. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund.
