Hyundai Galloper Seat Belt Extender

Product description

🛡E4 & E8 Certified · Built In A UK Registered Factory

Buckle Up Comfortably In Your Hyundai Galloper

Your Galloper is a licence-built first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero, which Britain knows as the Shogun. That opens up a far larger parts pool than the Hyundai badge suggests. Count your seats first, because this car came as a five, a seven and even a ten seater.

The Problem

Body-on-frame construction with a transfer case puts a wide, tall tunnel down the centre of the cabin, and the console sits high on top of it. Up front the buckle stalk drops into the slot between that console and your seat, out of sight. Further back the latches sit low against the cushions, and the rearmost seats were never designed with easy access in mind. Thirty years of use rarely makes a belt mechanism any more willing either.

The Solution

A certified extender brings the connection point back to where the hand already falls, in whichever row you need it. One click into the car's buckle, one click with the original belt tongue. Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified, which matters on a vehicle whose original parts are getting scarce.

Search For Shogun Parts, Not Galloper Parts

When Mitsubishi moved to the second-generation Pajero in 1991, the first-generation production lines went to Hyundai Precision, which began building the same vehicle as the Galloper that September. Owners routinely report that the overwhelming majority of components carry straight across, sometimes even sharing part numbers.

That matters in Britain, because the Pajero is sold here as the Mitsubishi Shogun and survives in far greater numbers than the Galloper does. Searching for first-generation Shogun or Pajero components will turn up vastly more than searching Galloper. Elsewhere the same car wore Mitsubishi Galloper badges in Germany and Spain, and Asia Galloper in Brazil.

How Many Seats Does Yours Have?

Three quite different layouts were built, and the seat count changes the positions available.

Layout How To Recognize It Belt Positions
Short Wheelbase Three doors, around 3,945mm long. The compact off-roader. Two rows, five seats
Long Wheelbase Five doors, around 4,545mm or more. Two fold-away seats behind the rear bench. Three rows, seven seats
Van Or Wagon High roof, with two benches running along the sides of the load area. Up to ten seats. Contact us about the side-facing benches.

Side-Facing Benches Are A Separate Conversation

A high-roof version was built with two benches running lengthways along the load area rather than across it, taking capacity as high as ten. Those seats face inward rather than forward, which changes belt geometry completely.

Get in touch rather than ordering from the listing if that describes your vehicle. Send a photo of the seat and the buckle and we will tell you honestly whether we have something suitable, and say so plainly if we do not.

Choose The Style That Fits Where You Sit

Three styles across our full extender range. In a ladder-frame off-roader the front and the rear want different things.

Style Best For
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle above the console line. Usually the right answer up front, where the transfer case tunnel and console close in from both sides.
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your original belt. The usual pick for the middle bench, where the problem is reach rather than height.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Sensible in a vehicle that carries different people in heavy outdoor clothing.

Hyundai Galloper Fitment Details

Seat Positions Front driver and passenger, middle bench, and two fold-away third-row seats on long-wheelbase cars

How It Works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick The Shortest Length That Works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Count The Seats

Five, seven or more, and whether any of them face sideways. All of it changes the answer.

2.Measure In Your Outdoor Clothing

A length chosen in a shirt often fails in a work coat. Size for how you actually use the vehicle.

3.Send A Photo

On a vehicle this old, a picture of the latch plate settles the fit far better than a year does.

Questions Worth Answering

1Will A Mitsubishi Shogun Or Pajero Part Fit?+
Very often, and this is the single most useful thing to know about owning a Galloper. When Mitsubishi moved to the second-generation Pajero in 1991, the first-generation production lines went to Hyundai Precision, which began building the same vehicle that September. Owners consistently report that the overwhelming majority of parts carry straight across, occasionally even sharing part numbers. In Britain the Pajero is the Shogun, and first-generation Shoguns survive here in far greater numbers than Gallopers do, so search that instead. Photograph both latch plates side by side before committing.
2Is Mine A Five Seater Or A Seven Seater?+
Count the doors first. The short-wheelbase Galloper is a three-door at around 3,945mm long and carries five people in two rows, with no third row ever fitted. The long-wheelbase five-door stretches to 4,545mm or more and adds two individual fold-away seats behind the rear bench, taking it to seven. A high-roof version also existed with benches running along the sides of the load area, reaching as many as ten seats. Those three are genuinely different vehicles for our purposes, so count before you order.
3Does The Third Row Need A Different Extender?+
Yes. The rearmost pair are individual seats that fold away to the sides when not in use, and their belts are shorter and anchored differently from the bench in front. Order a dedicated third-row part rather than assuming a middle-row extender transfers backwards, and tell us which side. Because those seats stow against the body sides, it is worth glancing at the belts and stalks each time they are raised, since webbing can easily end up trapped behind a seat back or under a cushion.
4How Do I Tell Whether I Need Rigid Or Regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally travel and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so choose a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand meets the console or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. The Galloper is body-on-frame with a transfer case, so the tunnel and console up front are considerably bulkier than in a modern car-based SUV, and the front is usually the second case.
5Is It Road Legal Here, And What If It Does Not Fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use. Extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, and should never be used with a child seat or child restraint in any row. Belt hardware of this vintage was not standardised the way it is today, so send a photo of your latch plate before ordering. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund.
