Hyundai i40 Seat Belt Extender

Product description

🛡E4 & E8 Certified · Built In A UK Registered Factory

Buckle Up Comfortably In Your Hyundai i40

Two bodies and one clear dividing line. Your trim badge tells us whether the car came before or after the 2015 update, because Hyundai changed the names completely at that point. Check yours before ordering.

The Problem

A family saloon or estate gives you plenty of cabin space and still manages to hide the buckle. Up front the console sits close alongside the seat and drops the stalk into a slot you cannot see into. In the rear the latch sits low against the cushion and passengers reach behind the hip. Drivers covering serious mileage in a coat, or anyone reaching across after a long day, find the same gap every time.

The Solution

A certified extender brings the connection point back to where your hand already falls. One click into the car's buckle, one click with your factory belt tongue, and you are secured comfortably. Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified, and it lifts straight back out.

Built to surpass international break-strength tests for three-point belts.

Your Trim Badge Dates The Car

Hyundai replaced the entire British trim range at the February 2015 update, which makes the badge a quicker test than the registration.

Period UK Trim Names Worth Knowing
2011 To 2015 Active, Style, Premium, and Premium SE from 2013 The Tourer arrived first in September 2011, with the saloon following in January 2012.
2015 To 2019 S, SE Nav, SE Nav Business, Premium Revised suspension and safety kit, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The Estate Came First, And It Shows

Unusually for a family car, Hyundai launched the i40 as an estate. The Tourer went on sale in September 2011 and the saloon only joined in January 2012, because the car was designed at Hyundai's European centre in Germany specifically for buyers here, where estates sell.

That matters because the Tourer was engineered as an estate from the outset rather than being a saloon with a longer roof. Its rear bench folds into a long load bay, so check no belt or stalk is trapped behind the cushion after raising it. Specify saloon or Tourer along with the seat position.

Ex-Fleet Cars And Higher Mileages

The i40 was aimed squarely at company drivers, to the point that one post-facelift trim was called SE Nav Business. A great many were bought as fleet cars and diesel repmobiles, which means plenty of surviving examples have covered serious distances.

On a car with a hard-working belt, it is worth checking the retractor before assuming the belt is too short. Pull it out slowly to full extent and see whether it reaches past the buckle with slack to spare. If it does, the mechanism needs attention rather than an extender.

Choose The Style That Fits Where You Sit

Three styles across our full extender range. The front and the rear usually want different things.

Style Best For
Regular Woven webbing in 7 inch or 10 inch matching your factory belt. The usual answer front and rear, since the seats are comfort-oriented rather than heavily bolstered.
Rigid A solid section in 3, 5 or 7 inch that stands upright and holds the buckle above the console line. Worth it if your hand meets the console before it finds the latch, or in a heavy coat.
Adjustable Woven webbing with a sliding adjuster covering 9 to 26 inches. Sensible in the rear of a family car, or in any vehicle carrying different people.

Hyundai i40 Fitment Details

Related Models Shares its platform with the Kia Optima and the Hyundai Sonata, and replaced the Sonata in Europe
Design Origin Developed at Hyundai's European center at Rüsselsheim in Germany, specifically for this market
Certification E4 or E8 type-approved

How It Works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender. Takes about five seconds, no tools needed.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt.

Pick The Shortest Length That Works

We recommend adding only the minimum length you need to buckle comfortably. More webbing is not safer, it just adds slack.

1.Check The Belt First

On an ex-fleet car with high mileage, make sure the retractor is not the real problem.

2.Confirm Body And Trim

Saloon or Tourer, plus the trim name, which dates the car either side of the 2015 update.

3.Need Help?

Send your year, body, trim and seat position, and our team will confirm the fit.

Questions Worth Answering

1Is Mine Before Or After The 2015 Update?+
Your trim badge answers it faster than the registration does. British i40s launched with Active, Style and Premium trims, joined by Premium SE in 2013. When the facelift arrived in February 2015, Hyundai replaced the whole range with S, SE Nav, SE Nav Business and Premium. So an Active or a Style is a pre-facelift car, and an SE Nav is post-facelift. The update also brought revised suspension, extra safety equipment and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in place of the earlier torque converter. Mention the trim when you order.
2Does Saloon Or Tourer Change The Part?+
In the rear it can. Both bodies share their front seats, so a front order is the same either way. What differs is behind, and unusually the Tourer came first: it went on sale in September 2011 with the saloon following in January 2012, and it was engineered as an estate from the outset rather than being a saloon with a longer roof. Its rear bench folds into a long load bay, so glance at the belts and stalks after raising it to make sure nothing is trapped. Specify the body along with the exact seat position.
3Will A Kia Optima Part Fit My i40?+
Worth checking, since the two share a platform and sat alongside each other in the same class, with the Optima Sportswagon covering the same ground as the Tourer. The Hyundai Sonata is related as well, and the i40 replaced the Sonata in Europe. Two cautions. Match the generations, since the Optima changed on its own schedule. And each brand fits its own seats, with the belt tongue belonging to the seat rather than the floorpan. Photograph both latch plates side by side and send them over and we will compare them properly.
4How Do I Tell Whether I Need Rigid Or Regular?+
Sit in the seat dressed as you normally drive and reach for the buckle with your eyes shut. If your hand finds the latch and the belt simply will not stretch to meet it, you need length, so choose a regular extender in the shortest size that reaches. If your hand meets the console or the seat side before it gets near the latch, you need height instead, and that is a rigid extender whatever your size. The i40 drives its front wheels and has comfort-oriented seats rather than deep bolsters, so most owners need length. Do the test in a coat if that is how you usually travel.
5Is It Road Legal Here, And What If It Does Not Fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's handbook alongside the safety notes supplied before use. Extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt, and should never be used with a child seat or child restraint, so use the ISOFIX points fitted to your i40 instead. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though contacting us first with your body, trim and seat position usually gets the right part to you faster.
