Fit, Test, Then Drive
- Check the tongue. Place the clip's tongue beside your MG belt tongue. The width and slot should match.
- Plug in and pull. Push the clip into the buckle until it clicks, then pull it upwards hard.
- Belt in and pull again. Fasten your belt into the clip and give the belt a sharp tug. Both joints must stay locked.
- Try the button. One press on the red top button should release the belt cleanly.
- Look at the belt. Lap section low across the hips, shoulder strap across the collarbone and clear of the neck.
Pick A Different Product If
- Your belt cannot reach the buckle at all. A webbing seat belt extender adds real length.
- The factory buckle sticks or will not latch. Fit a new seat belt buckle receiver first.

Which MG Models Does The Seat Belt Clip Extender Fit?
Made for the MG ZS and ZS EV, the HS and HS Plug-in Hybrid (sold earlier as the EHS), the MG3, MG4 and MG5, the older MG6, and the overseas MG7 and MG GT. Which Colour Should I Choose For My MG?
Red suits cabins with red stitching or trim accents. Blue gives a strong contrast in black or grey interiors. Black is the subtle pick that looks closest to factory fit. All three share the same body, tongue and white MG octagon, so the choice is purely about looks.
Will It Affect My MG's Seat Belt Reminder?
Only if it is misused. Euro NCAP lists front and rear seat belt reminders as standard on the MG4. A clip left plugged into a buckle with no belt through it can make that seat read as fastened. Always wear your belt through the clip, and unplug it from any seat nobody is using.
Can It Be Used For Children Or During Pregnancy?
Never use any extender with a child car seat, booster or child passenger, because it moves the buckle and belt out of position. Our UK child car seat rules guide explains what the law asks for. In pregnancy, wear the lap belt low under the bump and the shoulder strap between the breasts, and only use an extender if the belt cannot fasten correctly, after speaking to your midwife or GP.
Is A Plastic Shell As Strong As An All-Metal Clip?
The steel tongue and alloy core carry the connection, while the ABS shell houses them and keeps the weight down to 68 g. Plastic can crack if it is trodden on or trapped in a door, so check the shell each time you fit it and replace the clip if you see damage or after any collision.
