25cm black rigid car seat belt extender with red press release button for Tesla Model S front seats

Tesla Model S Seat Belt Extender

Product description
Shipping & Return
🛡E4 & E8 Certified · Built In A UK Registered Factory

Buckle Up Comfortably In Your Tesla Model S

Five seating positions, and they do not all take the same extender. The two front seats use the common fitting, the rear outer seats behave differently, and the rear center runs from its own stalk. Work out your position and length below before ordering.

The Problem

Cabin space is not the issue in a Model S. Geometry is. The flat battery floor sits occupants slightly higher than a conventional saloon while the wide console runs the length of the cabin, so the front buckle stalks drop into a recessed slot you reach into blind. In the back, the bench cushion sits low and long, leaving the latch behind the hip rather than beside it, and the center position is harder still.

The Solution

A certified extender matched to the correct seat brings the connection point back to where your hand already falls. One click into the car's buckle, one click with the factory belt tongue, and you are secured comfortably. Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified, and it lifts straight back out.

Buckle And Tongue Width By Seat Position

Tesla publishes no buckle dimensions for any of its cars, so the figures below come from measured aftermarket fitments and from owners who have tested parts in more than one row. Treat them as a guide and confirm with a photograph.

Seat Position Tongue Width What To Watch For
Front Driver Around 7/8 inch, roughly 22mm The common industry fitting. The stalk sits recessed beside the console, so height is often the real obstacle.
Front Passenger Around 7/8 inch, roughly 22mm Matches the driver's side. Tesla permits only belt-based child restraints here, never an extender with one.
Rear Outer, Left And Right Similar nominal width, different engagement depth Confirm before ordering. Rear Tesla belts are the ones that defeat generic parts. See the note below.
Rear Centre Separate stalk from the outer seats Order individually. An outer-seat part is not a safe assumption across the bench.

Rear Belts Are Where Generic Parts Come Unstuck

Across the Tesla range, two failure modes come up repeatedly in the rear seats and both look like a fit at first glance. In the first, the extender clicks into the car's buckle but the car's own belt tongue will not lock into the extender, because it does not reach the locking mechanism. In the second, the tongue goes in far enough to press the extender's release button from the inside, so it refuses to stay latched at all.

Worth knowing that parts behave differently between Tesla models rather than consistently across them, so a listing claiming to fit every Tesla is a warning sign rather than reassurance. If you are fitting a rear seat, photograph the latch plate beside the buckle and send it over. Owners of the saloon's smaller sibling will find the same guidance on our Tesla Model 3 seat belt extender listing.

Recommended Variation By Seat

Our full extender range covers three styles and several lengths. The table below is where most Model S owners land, position by position.

Seat Start Here Step Up To
Front Driver Rigid 3 inch or 5 inch, which lifts the buckle clear of the console line Rigid 7 inch if you also wear a work coat or utility belt
Front Passenger Rigid 3 inch or 5 inch for the same recessed stalk Regular 18cm if your hand reaches the latch and only the belt falls short
Rear Outer Regular 18cm, the shortest length that usually reaches on the bench Regular 25cm for a longer reach behind the hip, or in winter clothing
Rear Centre Regular 25cm, since the center latch sits furthest from the occupant Adjustable 23cm to 66cm where different passengers use the seat
Shared Or Hire Use Adjustable 23cm to 66cm, so one unit covers a range of passengers Add fixed lengths for the driver's seat, which one person uses consistently

A note on choosing longer. The 25cm regular is the right answer when the gap is genuinely that wide, and the wrong one when it is not. The full length you order is the full length that sits between your hip and the anchor, so extra webbing adds slack rather than safety. Pick the shortest option that lets you buckle without strain, and if you are between two sizes, measure in the clothing you actually travel in.

What Tesla's Own Manual Sets Out

Tesla sells no factory extender and publishes no general guidance on adult use, but the Model S manual is clear on one point, and the same warning runs through the Model 3, Model X and Model Y manuals as well: never use a seat belt extender on a belt that is securing a child safety seat or booster seat.

Several further details from the manual are worth knowing when you work out which seats you are fitting. ISOFIX and i-Size lower anchors are provided only in the two rear outer seats, behind a lift-up flap at the base of the backrest. The rear center seat and the front passenger seat have no lower anchors at all and take belt-based restraints only. Tesla also sets a limit of 33kg for the combined weight of child and restraint when using those anchors with an integral harness.

For the front passenger seat specifically, the passenger airbag must be switched off before a child restraint goes in, and the seat raised to roughly mid-height. None of which changes an adult extender order, but it does tell you which positions are out of scope entirely.

How It Works

Nothing is cut, drilled, or modified. The whole thing takes about five seconds and lifts straight back out whenever you want it gone.

1

Click the extender's tongue into your seat belt receptacle.

2

Buckle your seat belt into the extender, listen for a clear click, then tug it to confirm it holds.

3

To remove it, press the release button just like a normal belt

Frequently Asked Question

1Which Buckle Width And Length Does Each Seat Take?+
Both front seats use a tongue around 7/8 inch wide, roughly 22mm, which is the common fitting across the industry, and most front-seat owners do better with a rigid 3 inch or 5 inch because the stalk sits recessed beside the console. The rear outer seats generally suit a regular 18cm, stepping up to 25cm for a longer reach behind the hip or in winter clothing. The rear centre is the furthest latch from its occupant, so 25cm is the sensible starting point there. Tesla publishes no buckle dimensions, so send a photograph of the latch plate for a rear order.
2Should I Just Order The Longest One To Be Safe?+
No, and the instinct is understandable but backwards. Whatever length you order sits permanently between your hip and the anchor point, so a longer extender does not add protection, it adds slack in the one place you want the belt held close. The 25cm regular earns its place when the gap is genuinely that wide, which is usually the rear centre seat or a rear outer seat used in bulky clothing. Measure in what you actually wear, pick the shortest size that lets you buckle without strain, and choose adjustable instead if several different people use the same seat.
3My Belt Will Not Lock Into The Extender. What Is Wrong?+
You most likely have a part intended for a different seat, and it is the commonest Tesla complaint. Two versions of the fault turn up. In one, the extender latches happily into the car's buckle but the car's own tongue slides in without reaching the locking mechanism. In the other, the tongue presses the extender's release button from the inside, so it will not stay latched even when it feels seated. Neither is safe to use. Stop using it, tell us which seat it was for, and send a photograph so we can match the correct part.
4Can I Use One With A Child Seat Or Booster?+
No, and the instruction comes from Tesla rather than from us. The Model S manual states that a seat belt extender must not be used on a belt being used to install a child safety seat or booster seat, and the same warning appears across the Model 3, Model X and Model Y. Use the ISOFIX and i-Size anchors instead, remembering they are fitted only to the two rear outer seats, behind a lift-up flap at the base of the backrest, and that Tesla limits the combined weight of child and restraint to 33kg when using them with an integral harness. The rear centre and front passenger seats have no lower anchors.
5Is It Road Legal Here, And What If It Does Not Fit?+
Our extenders carry E4 or E8 type approval, the European mark showing the part has been tested and approved to the relevant standard, and they are made in a UK-registered factory compliant with ISO/TS 16949:2009 to exceed international break-strength requirements for three-point belts. Read your owner's manual alongside the safety notes supplied before use. Extenders are only for people who cannot otherwise fasten the standard belt. Unclip yours when the seat is empty, since the car monitors occupancy and belt status. If it does not fit, return it within the guarantee window for a refund, though a photograph first usually saves the round trip.
