Toyota launched the HiAce in 1967, and it has been moving people and goods ever since. It reached the UK in 1989, and a related model, the Granvia, was a popular seller here from 1996 until 2012. The fifth generation ran from 2004 to 2019, and the sixth generation arrived in 2019 with a more car like front end. Around the world it works as a courier van, a taxi, an airport shuttle, a school minibus and a family people carrier.
That busy life means lots of different passengers in lots of different seats. Drivers wear thick jackets and carry tools. Children outgrow their boosters. Older passengers find the step up and the twist to the buckle harder than they used to. In a minibus with up to 15 seats, one short belt can slow down a whole group.
